ROB GARLAND

BIO

Rob Garland grew up in England, worked in a diverse array of bands and later played hundreds of gigs at festivals and clubs across the U.S. with his band 'The Blue Monks,' opening for artists such as B.B. King, Booker T. and Chuck Berry.

He now lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to write and record his original music, ranging from jazz-fusion instrumentals to acoustic vocal songs, available to stream/download.

Rob regularly performs at clubs such as The Baked Potato, Alva’s Showroom and Trip, with his 'Eclectic Trio,' jazz-fusion band 'Catatonic' and (newly formed) Cream tribute band 'Cream Brûlée.' He has recorded sessions at notable studios such as Revolver, The Village Recorder and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Studios.

Rob has been teaching guitar for 25+ years and has taught hundreds of private students across all ability levels and musical genres. He has has taught group classes, open counseling, private lessons and masterclasses for Musicians Institute (G.I.T.) in Hollywood, CA, where he served on the faculty.

In 2023 Rob
 joined Sonora Guitar Intensive as a full-time guitar mentor.

He has been featured in U.K. and U.S. guitar magazines, and has created numerous instructional courses for TrueFire & JamPlay, including the best selling 'Chord Navigator: CAGED' series.

Rob has written books for Cherry Lane/Hal Leonard, been published in the TrueFire Journal 'Riff,' has a motivational eBook entitled 'Guitar Play!' and a Patreon site ‘The British Invasion.’ He is currently writing books for Fundamental Changes and is also a consultant for Blink Tech, a music education platform.

In 2018 Rob performed with legendary guitarist Steve Vai in Hollywood, CA.
Other musicians Rob has performed with include Jimmy Haslip (The Yellowjackets), Marco Minnemann (Joe Satriani), Gus Thornton (Albert King), Joel Taylor (Allan Holdsworth) and Tony Newton (Gary Moore).

Rob is endorsed by Bogner amps, Xotic guitars, Curt Mangan strings, ChickenPicks and Moody Leather straps and has given gear clinics for various companies at The NAMM Show.

Rob loves music and the guitar as much as he did when he was 14, possibly even more! He enjoys all genres but is "fascinated by the harmony of jazz combined with the energy and tone of rock."
